Joel Nye teaches Math for grades 6 and 7, as well as Physical Education and Health for grades 7-12. This is Joel’s first year at BFCS. Previously he taught at the Logos Charter School, Eagle Point, and Cascade Christian.

Joel really appreciates the smaller class sizes at BFCS. “Smaller classes enable you to help students one on one,” he says. “It also motivates the students. My Sixth grade class is small, and everyone in the class is doing well.”

As the Health and P E teacher, Joel really likes BFCS’s focus on the outdoors. “In P E, I get my students out of the classroom - hiking, biking, fishing, cross country skiing, and doing archery.”

Joel also incorporates the outdoors into his Math classes. “We go out to measure the height and circumference of trees. We might do an estimation of how many pine cones are on the tree, or how many board feet of lumber it might yield.”

Joel hopes his Health classes will have a positive effect on the Butte Falls community. “We’re exploring options to educate the community about drugs,” he says. “The students have already made posters about drugs. Next we’ll look into first aid, CPR, and other ways to improve our community.”
